what has been CREATIVELY FULFILLING in 2024?

In my last YouTube video, I made a list of 6 questions we should ask ourselves to reflect on the year so far. Simple though they may seem, these questions helped me gain SO MUCH CLARITY on the priorities in my life, what my creative goals are, what’s working in my business and what isn’t, and how I want to finish out 2024. (If you’d like to answer these questions too, I made a free lil’ downloadable set of journal pages for you!)

My answer to the question “what has been the most creatively FULFILLING thing for me this year?” was exploration. The simple act of letting go of limiting beliefs and rules and choosing to EXPLORE in my creative practice. One of the ways I’ve done that this year is with plein air painting. Y’all know, I LOVE nature. I love being in it, I love learning about it, and I love painting it. Plein air combines all three of those elements into one, big, beautiful experience!

I recently had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with my mom and Annie Jane at the park, enjoying the first moments of autumn and painting one of the playsets. Although my dream is to one day be able to travel the world, painting things like castle ruins, mountainscapes, and Greek villages, plein air painting has helped me to see the beauty in where I’m at right now. To find the magic in my own mundane place. Because there IS beauty where we’re at if we simply open our eyes to see it.

If you’re interested in giving plein air painting or urban sketching a try, we’ve just started our new quest in the Curious Creatives group on Patreon exploring this subject! We’ll be spending all of October and November on this quest, so there’s plenty of time to join up with us. 😊
