Over the past couple of months I’ve been intentionally curating and setting boundaries around the input I’m receiving. As someone who tends to get very overwhelmed by social media and all the many voices shouting across it, intentional consumption is key for me. I definitely want to chat a lot more about this journey in the future, but for now I wanted to share one of the sources of input that has most benefited my mindset and my creativity lately.

Meet the In Her Studio magazine. This is a magazine dedicated to sharing the stories and spaces of creative women all over the world! From miniatures to oil paintings to ceramics and more, this magazine features a WIDE variety of creative practices. By nature, magazines are a slower and quieter form of input. You are limited to only the articles featured in them, not the whole gamut of Instagram. They require you to sit on the couch with your tea and a cozy blanket to read for a bit. And while this magazine in particular does share the struggles artists face, the overall vibe is very positive and inspirational.
“You are what you eat” is true for both our physical consumption and our mental consumption. The videos, the articles, the posts we consume, they all have a direct impact on who we are as people and who we are as creatives. When we curate our input to build us up and encourage us in our creative practice, we will naturally become more creative people.
I want to challenge you to think about what you’re taking in. What does your daily input look like? Is it fast-paced? Overwhelming? Is it soothing? Inspirational? Discouraging? How can you curate what you consume to benefit your creative practice?
