INKTOBER thoughts

the story begins....

Anyone else’s mind absolutely blown that it’s October?? No? Just me? Anyhoo…

In the past I’ve never fully committed to Inktober. Even before my relationship with my creativity started to go downhill, I simply didn’t have enough discipline to create something every day. Once I fell headfirst into burnout and so many nasty limiting beliefs and fears filled my head, Inktober was DEFINITELY a no-go. The thought of having to make something every day was EXHAUSTING. And truthfully, I’m glad I didn’t commit to it during that time. Forcing myself to make art when I wasn’t enjoying it would’ve simply made the problem worse.

But now that I’ve healed my relationship with my creativity, found my joy for art again, and have let go of the beliefs that held me back, I’ve decided to give Inktober a try! I created my own list of prompts that fit “my vibe”, and I’ve decided to use them to get to know my little bird skull girl. Ivy. Here’s a sneak peek at the first day!

Day One - KOMOREBI (dappled sunlight) "Moments after the first rainfall of autumn, the sun began to peek shyly through the curtain of clouds. Its light filtered softly between the leaves, illuminating a peculiar object on the forest floor."

If you’d like to follow along with Ivy’s journey, I’m posting each new drawing and story snippet over on Patreon (yes, this includes the free tier!) Since making the decision to leave Instagram for the foreseeable future, I’ve had a LOT more time to post on Patreon. It’s such a fun, encouraging, and close-knit community, and I’m so excited to build up this story there!

I’d love to hear if YOU participate in Inktober, and, if so, what guidelines have you set to make it accessible and fun for YOU??
