A Very Sleepy Meraki Meadow Poem

+ my writing intention

This year, I’m tackling one of my biggest goals: creating my first art book.

Toward the end of 2024, I finished filling up my first Meraki Monday sketchbook. I sketched a Bits and/or Bobbles scene every Monday for over a year in this book, and it was very bittersweet to see it come to an end. This sketchbook was so full of love and joy, and I knew I wanted to turn it into a book that anyone could have on their shelf.

There are a lot of words to describe how I’m feeling about this. “Terrified” is one. “Exhilarated” is another. “Overjoyed” is very true, and so is “overwhelmed.” There are a lot of small and big steps I need to accomplish to make this dream a reality. Steps like scanning all the pages and digitizing them, choosing a printer to actually bring it to life, formatting the book, etc.

But one of the pieces that is most exciting and most daunting is writing. At first, I intended to make this simply a book of pictures, no words needed. But the truth is, I have a lot I want to share about Bits and Bobbles.

It’s no secret that I love writing. From writing these weekly newsletters to YouTube scripts to Patreon curriculum, writing is one of my favorite forms of creativity. So, I set an intention for myself during the month of February: to set aside 30 minutes of creative writing time each week day to devote to these sketches. Silly little poems about Bits and Bobbles, story snippets of their lives, and even thought prompts for you as you go through the book.

I wanted to share one of those poems with you today, and I hope it makes you smile. 😊

One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four.

Five sheep times a thousand more.

Bobbles tossed and turned all night.

His bed and he were in a fight.

He lay exhausted, counting sheep,

Never drifting off to sleep.

But when “it’s 6!” cuckooed the clock,

He’d counted up the biggest flock!
