Keeping darkness at bay; chasing nightmares away.

Deep in the heart of the Meraki Meadow, a bronze lamp overgrown with greenery stands tall and sturdy. It casts a warm, soft glow across the snowy, winter ground. The candle within is small, easy to overlook. But as Fergus tenderly lights the wick, each of the Meadow folk’s hearts fills with hope, fills with joy, fills with light.

The winter was not yet over. The darkness would last the night. Days of grief, disappointment, frustration, and hurt still would come. But every time the lamp is lit, every Meadow heart is reminded of the importance of holding onto the light. Being grateful for this beautiful thing called life. Seeing the good in the every day, finding the magic in the mundane.

It’s taken me quite a while to find the time to paint this piece, but it was truly such a special experience. It was the opportunity to try out a color palette outside of my comfort zone. It was a return to the characters I love the most. And it was a reminder for me that, though we cannot remove the dark in the world, we can hold fast to the light.

If you like how this piece turned out and want it as a reminder to hold onto the light, too, I now have prints available for pre-order!
