Raise your hand if you’re a creative. (I’m guessing if you’re subscribed to this newsletter, your hand is probably in the air.)
Whether you’re a musician, a poet, a dancer, a painter, a seamstress… creativity is a part of your life. It’s weaved into your body and soul.
We all go through seasons with our creative practices. Seasons of flourish and seasons of fallow. Seasons where we can’t help but be creative and seasons where the creative juices have ceased to flow. I do believe we should always have grace on ourselves when we’re stuck in a creative rut, but I also believe we need to be intentional about investing in our creativity. When we aren’t intentional about nourishing our creative practice, it’s easy to let it slip through the cracks.
Whether you’re overflowing with creative passion or can’t bring yourself to even look at your supplies, I want to share a few ways you can invest in your creativity:
1) Go into stalking mode. Choose a creative who inspires you and dive deep into their work. Read their art book! Peruse their blogs! Listen to their latest album! Sometimes, we simply don’t have the energy to create, but seeking inspiration from our favorite creatives can help to fill our creative cup.
2) Go into student mode. Maybe you WANT to be creative, but you’re stuck for IDEAS. Taking a class can be a great way to keep investing in your creativity and keep those skills sharp without having to brainstorm a masterpiece. (And if you’re a visual artist wanting to take a class, all the classes in my shop are 20% off this week! Plein air painting? Got it. Capturing the beauty of plants? Got it. Planning a foodie sketchbook spread? Let’s go!)

3) Go into chaos mode. Set aside a 10-minute pocket of time today to simply be chaotically creative. Don’t hold back. Any idea that comes to mind, DO IT! Give yourself the space to explore! The truth is, finding inspiration is great and building our skills is important, but the very best way to invest in your creativity is simply to be creative. Give yourself the space and time to do it. Your creativity is entirely dependent on YOU to show up.
