I think we all feel a certain amount of “imposter syndrome” in our lives. Maybe we feel underqualified for the degree we’re pursuing. Underqualified to be a parent. Underqualified to be a creative. We have this underlying sense that we’re just “faking it.”

One of the areas I feel most underqualified in is TEACHING. While I do love teaching other creatives and helping them to go deeper in their creative practice, every time I begin to write a new curriculum, I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.

After receiving some AMAZING feedback from the Curious Creatives, I decided to try something a bit different with our November/December quest. We’re going to be painting this little Meraki Meadow vignette of Gilbert’s market stall, but instead of creating a step-by-step tutorial, I wrote a curriculum on the three creative skills I believe are the most important in this painting:

-Creating a harmonious color palette (+ a better way to understand color than using color “temperature” terms)

-Using a full range of gouache consistencies

-Building up your brush technique

I also created a 2.5 hour painting process video with a semi-unhinged commentary! (Some of it’s helpful… some of it’s silly tbh 😂)

After completing the market stall painting, the goal is to choose one of these three skills and use it in a painting of your own! My goal in teaching isn’t to craft a bunch of artists who paint just like me, but to help creatives craft their OWN practice and equip them with the skills they need to do it. I’ll also be offering critiques in the Discord server for this one. If you’d like to join us for this super fun Curiosity Quest, head on over to Patreon to come along!

Or if you’d like to adopt a print of Gilbert to cozy up your creative space, you can find him here!
